It was announced that Huawei and Xiaomi, one of China’s and the world’s leading smartphone manufacturers, signed a “global patent licensing agreement” that will end the patent disputes between them.
According to the joint statement made by the companies, the agreement will enable cross-licensing of patents in many communication technologies, including 5G.
Huawei’s Head of Intellectual Property Alan Fan said, “This license agreement once again shows that Huawei’s contribution to communication standards is accepted by the industry.”
Xiaomi’s General Manager of Corporate Business Development and Intellectual Property Strategy Şü Ran also commented, “We are happy to reach a patent licensing agreement with Huawei. This shows that both parties accept and respect each other’s intellectual property rights.”
There are patent infringement lawsuits between Huawei and Xiaomi, which have the most patents on mobile communication standards in the world, related to the development of the 4G standard, smartphone cameras and the phone screen lock feature.
